World Cerebral Palsy Day

World Cerebral Palsy Day is a movement of people with cerebral palsy, their families, and the organizations that support them in more than 50 countries. Our vision is to ensure that children and adults with cerebral palsy (CP) have the same rights, access and opportunities as anyone else in our society. It is only together, that we can make that happen. {from WorldCPDay.org}

I don't jump on the bandwagon for every and all causes, but I will for two.

Prematurity

and

Cerebral Palsy

Mostly because both have greatly impacted and forever changed our family.......

But also because both are VERY misunderstood.  And for Cerebral Palsy in particular, funding and rehabilitation options are extremely limited.  While medicine is coming around and seeing that the brain can heal and reroute, we are still LIGHT YEARS away from real progress.  Light years, y'all.  There is an URGENT need TODAY for development of new treatments.  AND for insurance companies to recognize that some of these alternative treatments are working for our kids.  Too many children lack access to the therapies they need.

We are thankful to be part of the University of Texas stem cell-based clinical trial for the treatment of young children with cerebral palsy.  We believe stem cell treatment is where medicine is going and are thrilled for our daughter's participation in leading the way.  We're hopeful that the medical community is waking up and understanding that new treatments are desperately needed.

While my Mama heart longs for a day where her brain will let her do what she wants, my hope has ALWAYS been that Alli's ginormous smile and larger than life giggle remind you of the goodness of God and redefines what CP looks like to you.

She has totally redefined our view.
