20 months/17 adjusted

On this very day 20 months ago and at about this very moment, I was taking my first shower in days. Being on complete hospital bed rest does not give way to very good personal hygiene. We had just made one of the biggest gut wrenching decisions in both of our lives, to deliver Alli via cesarean 13 weeks too soon and at an estimated weight of 12-13 ounces. I remember standing there letting the water run down my back second guessing myself, begging God to assure me I had undeniably heard him right, and fearing the path that was ahead. What an incredible journey that we are still walking out.

I'll save a complete update for next month or maybe even next week, depending on how the next few days go.  Alli has a big few days.  Tonight, she will be admitted to Children's for her sleep study. If you follow us, you know this is a sore subject. Then tomorrow after OT and Speech, she will have her developmental appointment.  We will probably have some news and/or a diagnosis o two after tomorrow’s appointment with Dr. Weinstein.  It’s been almost 6 months since we’ve seen her and it’s an appointment that can go really good or really bad.  I’m praying that Alli shows up and is able to show Dr. W what she has got and what she does not.  Sometimes, I feel we’re not getting anywhere.  I think the pictures below prove that we are, but there are moments in life where you just want to sprint instead of crawl.  Alli's developmental delays are areas where sprinting would always be nice.

Going forward, I ask that you pray for her weight gain.  She’s obviously grown in length, something fierce, which is awesome.  Length is a great gage of lung maturation.  However, having hit a plateau for a few months, she now has lost weight.  This tells me that she is using too much energy by breathing, playing, and crawling. This is yet another reason we need to keep her oxygen, especially through cold and flu season.
I haven’t shared the picture progression in a few months.  They alone speak for themselves the journey.

Happy 20 months Alli! You are so loved!
